Standard Roofing & Restoration Historical Timeline
> 1901
Standard Roofing & Restoration is founded by Charles Walter Freuden in downtown Milwaukee, starting as a small shop.
> 1940s
Charles upgrades the business to a new location at 1820 S. Kinnickinnic Ave., purchasing the property from a cheese-making business.
> 1942
Edward, Charles’ youngest son, joins the business after returning from military service in World War II.
> 1969
Two years before his death, Charles passes the business to Edward.
> 1970s
Edward’s sons, Gary and Jon, join him in the business.
> 1990s
Edward retires and passes the business to Gary, who continues his grandfather’s legacy.
Along the way, Gary befriended another roofer named Jerry Wycklendt who operated his own company called South Side Roofing. Gary and Jerry helped each other over the years. They shared advice, contacts and even materials.
In keeping with the family tradition, Jerry’s son Jake became a roofer and worked not only with his father’s company, but worked with Gary Freuden at Standard Roofing & Restoration as a commercial foreman.
> 2010s
When Gary decided to retire in 2017, he passed the Standard Roofing & Restoration torch to Jake Wycklendt, our current owner.
> 2020s
Jake opened our new office in Wauwatosa in 2020. And, along with his lifelong best friend, Russ Breitenbach, he also opened our sister company, Standard Windows & Doors, in Menomonee Falls.
